Erlan Sherov's Gold in Slovenia Became Historic for Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstani Erlan Sherov won a gold medal at one of the stages of the European Judo Cup, which took place on February 14-15 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Sherov competed in the weight category up to 90 kg, where 48 athletes participated in the competition. Given his achievements, the Kyrgyzstani received the top seed and began his journey from the Round of 16.

On his way to the final, Sherov secured three consecutive victories over representatives from Belgium, Lithuania, and Egypt.

In the final match for gold, he confidently defeated David Karapetyan, the 2020 European Youth Champion from Russia, winning the bout by ippon.

Thus, this medal became the first gold award for Kyrgyzstan in the history of the European Cup.
