In Brazil, in the city of Belém, the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) started on November 10, 2025, with the participation of about 50,000 delegates from 190 countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, the country's delegation, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baizakov and the President's Special Representative for Mountain Region Development D. Kemelova, attended the opening ceremony of COP30.
The delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic plans to actively advocate for the interests of residents of mountain regions during the climate negotiations, drawing the world's attention to the vulnerability of mountain ecosystems to climate change.
As a result of intensive consultations with the Chair of COP30 and other participants, the Kyrgyz side was able to agree on holding multilateral consultations on mountain issues within the framework of the conference. These consultations will discuss measures for the adaptation and resilience of mountain communities to climate change.
During the conference, the Kyrgyz delegation met with the Executive Director of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Simon Stiell, where key issues regarding access to climate financing for mountain regions were discussed.
In addition, the delegation presented an initiative to establish a Global Center for Mountain Resilience in Bishkek. In the coming days, the Kyrgyz delegation will continue its active work in the negotiations, promoting the mountain agenda within the conference.
