According to information provided by TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that adds new grounds for terminating employment relationships with foreigners.

According to the amendments to the Labor Code, employers are now required to consider cases where it is necessary to reduce the number of foreign workers in accordance with regulatory legal acts adopted at the level of the subjects of the Federation, in accordance with federal laws.

Previously, the dismissal of foreign workers could only be based on the need to comply with the quotas established by federal laws or decrees of the president and government resolutions. Restrictions imposed at the regional level were not taken into account and could not serve as an independent basis for terminating the contract.

The new law will come into effect on March 1, 2026.
