The question of building the first nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan will be resolved only after a nationwide discussion, as stated in an interview with the country's main television channel by the head of government, Adylbek Kasymaliev.

He noted that Russian technologies in the field of nuclear energy are among the most advanced in the world, if not the best, as Russia has reached a stage of a waste-free cycle, where uranium is processed and reused.

Kasymaliev also admitted that he previously had doubts about the feasibility of constructing a nuclear power plant in the country.

“The words ‘nuclear’ and ‘uranium’ can cause concern. However, studying the experience of neighboring countries, it becomes clear that modern technologies have reached a new level. It can be confidently said that safety today is practically at the highest level,” he added.

It is also worth noting that the president of the Eurasian Development Bank, Nikolai Podguzov, expressed the bank's readiness to participate in the construction of a small-capacity nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan. However, for this, Bishkek needs to formulate its plans in more detail.
