At a press conference on December 18, the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, Nikolai Podguzov, stated: "We are ready to participate in nuclear energy projects in Kyrgyzstan."

He also added: "Kyrgyzstan has not yet made a final decision on this issue. We expect that this process will be transformed into concrete plans. After that, we will be able to offer assistance both in design through the technical assistance fund and in co-financing. Since the project is likely not to cost $1 billion, we can only take on part of the financial obligations, but we are ready for cooperation and will gladly participate."

The Deputy Chairman of the Board of the EDB, Yaroslav Mandron, clarified that the bank has the capacity to provide between $300 million and $500 million to a single borrower, which also applies to nuclear energy projects.

Discussions about the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan began in 2022. So far, no final decisions have been made regarding the implementation of this project, its cost, location, or timelines for starting work.

The Deputy Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Altynbek Rysbekov, previously emphasized: "The possibility of building the plant exists; however, a principled decision has not yet been made. We have a signed memorandum with Rosatom, work is underway, but the location and method of construction have not yet been determined, and it is still too early to talk about anything specific."

At the same time, in Uzbekistan, the process of construction has already begun, where it is planned to build two small capacity blocks and two large ones. Kazakhstan, in turn, is considering the construction of a nuclear power plant with a capacity of 2.4 GW.
