At a recent meeting of the "Ala-Too" parliamentary group, representatives from the light industry sector presented alarming statistics regarding the current state of the industry. They reported that to date, more than 3,000 sewing workshops have closed their doors, resulting in a significant loss of jobs. In this regard, entrepreneurs appealed to the deputies for urgent support, pointing out a number of problems that are paralyzing their activities. The main difficulties are related to interaction with large marketplaces and limited access to the Russian market. Additionally, entry into European markets is hindered by the lack of international certification and necessary laboratory facilities in the country.
During the discussion, Deputy Jumabek Salymbekov noted a significant reduction in production volumes and a decrease in the competitiveness of local products, despite the provision of preferences within the EAEU framework. He was supported by Seyidbek Atambaev, who raised issues regarding personnel and the need to attract specialists from countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. The deputies also discussed the importance of legalizing the sewing business, the problems of mandatory labeling for exports to Russia, VAT issues, and the need for accessible financing for entrepreneurs.
Economy Minister Bakyt Sydykov informed the deputies about ongoing negotiations with Wildberries. In particular, there are plans to create a full-fledged logistics center for the marketplace, with its opening expected by 2028. Nevertheless, business representatives emphasize that support is needed immediately to prevent further closures of enterprises.
As a result of the discussion, the "Ala-Too" parliamentary group issued an official directive to the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan. The government needs to develop urgent measures for preferential lending for the light industry and propose strategies aimed at diversifying sales markets to reduce local producers' dependence on traditional export directions.
