At a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on industrial policy, transport, the fuel and energy complex, architecture, and construction, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev reported on the country's plans to eliminate the electricity deficit by 2028.

Currently, Kyrgyzstan is facing a shortage of electricity amounting to about 4 billion kilowatt-hours per year.

Ibraev noted that this year it is planned to put into operation new generation capacities ranging from 400 to 500 megawatts.

The electricity deficit in the country is largely covered by imports. The minister emphasized that with an average daily consumption of 55 million kilowatt-hours, nearly 50% of electricity is purchased from abroad.

According to current forecasts, by April 1, the water level in the Toktogul Reservoir is expected to reach 6.8 billion cubic meters.
