Kyrgyzstan has increased its own production of vegetable oil to 56.5%

The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic is actively implementing the "30+20+10" project aimed at supporting processing enterprises and introducing resource-saving technologies. One of the key areas of focus has been the agro-industrial complex "Shabane," which has been engaged in the full cycle of safflower oil production since 1995 — from land cultivation to cold pressing of the finished product.

During the visit to the enterprise, the main directions for its further development were identified. Among the tasks is solving the problem of raw material shortages, for which the introduction of drip irrigation and improvement of energy supply is planned. The possibility of increasing production areas under preferential conditions was also discussed, which will help expand the output of this important product for the population.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture, by the end of 2025, five new oilseed processing plants will be launched in Kyrgyzstan, located in the Issyk-Kul, Naryn, Talas, and Chui regions. Currently, there are 9 large and 136 small enterprises operating in this sector in the country.

Thanks to comprehensive import substitution measures, approximately 18,500 tons of vegetable oil have been produced in the republic over the past 11 months, allowing the self-sufficiency level to increase from 20.2% in 2022 to a record 56.5%. The Ministry is also actively working on the introduction of high-yielding varieties of oilseeds, conducting seed trials from the USA, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey, which should significantly strengthen the country's food security.
