The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, has approved the draft law "On Amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic on Food Security of the Kyrgyz Republic," which was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on September 18, 2025.
The purpose of the new law is to meet the domestic demand for essential socially significant food products produced in the country.
In accordance with the new legislation, amendments are made to the existing Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Food Security of the Kyrgyz Republic," which include:
– revision and establishment of new terms and definitions within the framework of the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Food Security of the Kyrgyz Republic";
– strengthening food security by defining the status of import substitution and its role in saturating the domestic market with essential products of domestic production;
– establishment of criteria for assessing the level of food security, aimed at ensuring the population with sufficient volumes of food products.
