The ministry noted that the information about the gas leak at well No. 202 of the "M-25" field (named in honor of the 25th anniversary of independence) in the Baysun district was caused by a misunderstanding. The agency clarified that this phenomenon is related to geological processes recorded a week ago.

“The process in question represents a temporary extinguishing of a previously ignited flare. Specialists noted that the situation was quickly rectified, and the flare was reignited. Currently, the situation at the "M-25" field is stable, and all operations are under control,” the official statement said.

The Ministry of Energy also explained that gas flaring is a standard practice used to prevent the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere and complies with international industrial safety requirements.

In early November, reports of a strong hydrogen sulfide smell reappeared in the area. In response, the Ministry of Energy stated that the gas escaping from well No. 202 was reignited to protect the environment.

Technogenic Accident

Problems with the odor began on September 1, 2024, when a gas leak with a high hydrogen sulfide content occurred during drilling operations at well No. 604 due to an accident. As a result, local residents were evacuated, as many complained of deteriorating health, and some were hospitalized.

As a result of the technogenic disaster, the leak elimination work lasted two weeks, and on September 15, the leak was stopped. However, two days later, it resumed, leading to the deaths of four people and injuries to another eleven.

Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov characterized the field as "complex" at a briefing in September 2024. In an interview with the "Lolazor" podcast, he also noted that eliminating the leak could take several months.
