At the National Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation (NIHSTO) of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, a rare and complex surgery was performed — bypass surgery of the descending thoracic aorta and infrarenal aorta with prosthetics of the main arteries. This was reported by the press service of the institution.
The operation was carried out to save the life of a 15-year-old teenager suffering from severe vascular pathology.
The patient was diagnosed with fibromuscular dysplasia affecting the abdominal aorta and its key branches, which led to chronic arterial hypertension and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Medication treatment was ineffective, and in the fall of 2025, the boy's condition sharply deteriorated.
After being admitted to NIHSTO, a complete examination was conducted, after which the doctors decided on an emergency operation. On October 29, a lengthy high-tech intervention took place successfully. Two days after the surgery, the teenager was transferred to a general ward, and at the moment his condition is stable, and he is preparing for discharge,” the message states.
Nurbolot Bekbolot uulu, a freelance pediatric cardiac surgeon of the Ministry of Health and the chief physician of NIHSTO, noted the uniqueness of this procedure and the importance of the institute's work: “The operation was extremely complex, but thanks to the coordinated work of the team and modern equipment, everything went successfully. Such operations are performed only at our institute. We pay special attention to children: for children under 6 years old, as well as for orphans and children from low-income families, surgeries are performed free of charge. We are glad that our patient's condition has stabilized and wish him a full recovery.”
It should be noted that similar surgeries in Kyrgyzstan are performed only at NIHSTO, which has modern medical equipment, including ECMO machines and aortic counterpulsation devices. The institute provides assistance to patients of all ages — from newborns to adults.
