The French police have completed the operation to detain all those accused in the high-profile case of the Louvre robbery, as reported by Kazinform.
According to the publication Bild, a total of four men aged between 34 and 39 have been arrested. The last suspect was caught a week ago in Laval, where he was detained at a construction site. He has been placed in solitary confinement, and his lawyers claim that "there is currently no evidence of his presence in the Louvre" and plan to appeal the arrest.
According to sources, the 39-year-old suspect from the Seine-Saint-Denis department has six previous convictions, including pimping and trafficking in stolen goods. In 2010, he received two months of probation for one of his crimes.
The investigation believes that two of the detainees directly entered the Apollo Gallery, while the other two, including the last arrested, waited for them outside. All four escaped with stolen jewelry valued at 88 million euros, and the last detainee transported them in a white van after the robbery.
Additionally, a woman, who is a partner of one of the suspects, is implicated in the case and is accused of aiding and abetting, but remains at large. The detainees are considered petty criminals, and investigators suspect that an organizer is behind the robbery. The whereabouts of the stolen jewelry are still unknown.
According to the investigation, the robbers entered the Louvre on October 19, using a retractable ladder installed on a stolen truck, and broke a window with special equipment. While leaving the crime scene, they dropped a diamond and emerald crown while descending the ladder, but still managed to take eight other exhibits.
Among the stolen items are jewelry belonging to French queens and empresses. The total value of the stolen jewelry is 88 million euros, and their whereabouts remain a mystery.
