According to Le Parisien, the last suspect was apprehended at a construction site in Laval. He is currently being held in a solitary cell, but his defense claims there is no reason to believe he was involved in the events at the Louvre and intends to appeal the decision regarding his arrest.
According to reports, the 39-year-old detainee, originally from the Seine-Saint-Denis department, has had legal troubles six times before, including offenses related to pimping and trafficking in stolen goods. In 2010, he was sentenced to two months of probation, as stated by Paris prosecutor Laure Beccu.
The group of robbers consisted of four men aged between 34 and 39. The investigation revealed that two of them entered the Apollo Gallery while the others waited for them outside. All four managed to steal jewelry worth approximately 88 million euros. The last detainee, according to Le Parisien, transported the stolen items in a white van after the robbery. A woman, who is the partner of one of the suspects, is also involved in the case and is accused of aiding and abetting, but is currently not detained.
It is unclear who exactly was behind this criminal scheme. Investigators suspect that a larger organizer may be hiding behind the operation, as the detainees are considered petty criminals. Additionally, it is still unknown where the stolen royal jewels are located.
