The Louvre was robbed by petty criminals from the suburbs of Paris – French prosecutor

Paris prosecutor Laure Becco stated that the group responsible for the audacious robbery of the Louvre is not made up of professional thieves, but rather petty criminals living in the impoverished areas of the capital. This was reported by bbc.com.

According to the prosecutor, the group that stole the jewels of the French monarchs in October has no connections to organized crime.

“This is not quite the usual petty criminal environment, but a type of crime that is typically not associated with high circles of organized crime,” Becco noted in an interview with Franceinfo radio.

She also added that the four detained individuals — three men and one woman — are “clearly locals,” mostly from the Saint-Denis area, known for its poverty. Two of them have previously had legal issues related to theft charges.

On Saturday, the prosecutor charged a 38-year-old woman from Cournay, located near Saint-Denis, and a 37-year-old man with whom she is in a relationship. They have children, but the investigation has not yet disclosed further details.

Both suspects deny their involvement in the museum robbery.
