Latvia has completed the construction of a 280-kilometer barrier on its border with Russia, establishing a continuous fence in areas where it was technically feasible. This was reported on December 29 by the state company Valsts Nekustamie Ipasumi (VNI), which was responsible for the work.

Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis noted that the installation of high-tech equipment is ongoing at the border. He added, "Our main task is to create a modern border guard system on the eastern border of the European Union."

According to VNI, work on creating border infrastructure continues and includes the construction of patrol paths, pedestrian bridges, and other engineering structures.

Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, the Baltic states, are actively building or have already completed the construction of barriers on their borders with Russia. Finland is also constructing its own fence.

Additionally, in July 2024, Latvia completed the construction of a 145-kilometer barrier on its border with Belarus.
