In the context of sharp rises in fuel prices and supply disruptions, Thai drivers have begun to line up en masse at gas stations. Due to the increase in gasoline and diesel prices, which has raised the cost from 29.94 to 38.94 baht per liter, many gas stations are experiencing fuel shortages.

According to Reuters, in order to alleviate the situation, the Thai government is considering reducing fuel excise taxes. This decision aims to relieve pressure on consumers and businesses.

The crisis has also affected the transportation sector. At Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, a significant number of taxis have suspended operations: of more than 5,000 vehicles in service, only half remain operational, as drivers avoid long trips due to the fear of running out of fuel.

The situation with fuel prices is also complicating work in agriculture and fishing. According to The Guardian, farmers are facing difficulties in irrigation and harvesting. Meanwhile, according to Reuters, the country's fishing industry is on the brink of collapse, as many vessels are not going out to sea due to high diesel prices.

Against this backdrop, the World Food Programme warns of a potential increase in the number of people experiencing acute food shortages by nearly 45 million, which could lead to record levels of scarcity in 2026 if the conflict in the Middle East and high oil prices persist.
