The Central District Court of Seoul sentenced Kim Gon-hee, the wife of Yoon Suk-yeol, to one year and eight months in prison. This was reported by Yonhap.

She was found guilty of receiving expensive gifts from members of the religious organization "Unification Church".

It is worth noting that Kim Gon-hee was arrested in August 2025. In particular, she was accused of receiving a Dior bag worth $2,200 as a gift. The presidential administration confirmed the receipt of the gift but added that the bag "is used and stored as government property." Kim Gon-hee was also accused of colluding with the former head of Deutsch Motors, which is a BMW dealer in South Korea, to manipulate the company's stock prices and gain illegal profits.

Despite this, her husband, Yoon Suk-yeol, is also under arrest. He declared martial law in the country on December 3, 2024, citing the need for protection against "North Korean communist forces." However, this decision was soon revoked, and he was charged with incitement to rebellion, abuse of power, and aiding the enemy. Legal proceedings in his case are still ongoing, and one of the charges has resulted in a request for the death penalty.
