Extreme frosts, referred to as "dzud" in Mongolia, have had a devastating impact on agriculture. According to data from the National Statistical Office, over 26,300 livestock died in several regions in January.
The most severe situation is observed in the western aimags, such as Uvs, Bayan-Ulgii, and Zavkhan, as well as in the central aimag of Uvurkhangai. In total, 11 out of 21 regions of the country are suffering from the effects of these abnormal cold spells.
It should also be noted that as of the end of 2025, the total number of livestock in the country was estimated at 58.1 million heads. Nevertheless, harsh winters continue to pose a major risk to the well-being of Mongolian herders.
