Telemisova reminded that on February 6, she had already spoken at a similar press conference, where she discussed the detention of her husband. A.Zh. was arrested on August 6, 2025, at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border at the "Ak-Zhol—Automobile" checkpoint when he was traveling with friends for a vacation at Issyk-Kul. He is suspected under Article 363 ("Financing of organized groups and criminal communities") of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and is currently in the State National Security Committee (GKNB) detention center. The GKNB of the Chui region is conducting an investigation into this case.
Lawyer Nurlan Toktaliyev noted that the case materials indicate that from 2011 to 2022, A.Zh. was involved in smuggling through Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. The charges also mention his participation in a transnational organized criminal group; however, a verdict regarding this organized criminal group was issued in 2019, which does not mention his client's name.
According to Zaura, after her press conference on February 13, she met with the Prosecutor General Maksat Asanaliev, who informed her that the president had instructed to release A.Zh. On the same day, his preventive measure was changed, and he was released under a written pledge not to leave.
Nevertheless, the situation regarding the criminal case remains unclear; it is not known at what stage the investigation is or when the court hearing will take place. The suspect's sister, Saule Seitimbetova, expressed gratitude to the Kyrgyz and Kazakh authorities for their response to the family's request, but they are now again calling for A.Zh. to be released to return home.
