What problems exist in the education sector of Karakol

The issue of the lack of educational institutions in Karakol remains relevant. The education of youth is the foundation of the future of any society, and creating adequate conditions for learning should be a priority. Although there has been an increase in the number of schools in recent years, the problem of their shortage still requires a solution. In some localities, the number of students in classes exceeds acceptable norms by two to three times, which is particularly noticeable in large cities where children are forced to study in three shifts.

President and relevant ministries are taking steps to address this problem, however, residents continue to insist on the need for new school construction. This topic was discussed during the recent visit of the president to Karakol. Local residents mentioned the need for a new building for one of the schools during a meeting with the head of state. One participant noted that there are two schools in the city, but one of them is experiencing a significant overload in the number of students — up to 48 children are studying in the classes.

“This school is considered one of the best in the Jalal-Abad region. The number of students is growing, and they no longer fit in the building. We have been raising the issue of building an additional building for three kurultays,” he said.
Tilek Tekebaev, the presidential representative in the Jalal-Abad region, confirmed the existence of another school in the city, however, most parents prefer to send their children to the more prestigious educational institution where highly qualified teachers work.

“The high authority of this school attracts parents, which creates the need for the construction of a new building,” he noted.
President Sadyr Japarov also expressed the opinion that such a situation is incorrect. He emphasized that it is necessary to evenly distribute teaching resources among educational institutions.

“If there are two schools in the city, and one lacks places, while the other is underloaded, then why build a new building? We need to improve the second school, raise its prestige — this is the task of local authorities. Teachers can be attracted from other regions. Teacher salaries have already been increased, and we plan further increases,” the president noted.
The mayor of Karakol, Nurtilek Orozbaev, stated in an interview with the Kabar agency that one of the main problems remains the lack of staff.

“There is indeed a shortage of teachers. Attracting specialists from outside is difficult due to housing issues. If houses were built through the State Mortgage Company, we could attract teachers from other regions. Karakol is located 5 hours from Bishkek and 4 hours from Jalal-Abad, and not everyone finds it convenient to come here. We purchased transport from the local budget to ensure the transportation of children to schools,” he added.

According to Gulnazira Kyrgyzbaeva, head of the city education department, there are six secondary schools operating in Karakol:

School No. 1 named after Toktogul — for 850 places, with 1,669 students enrolled (2 shifts);

Nearby School No. 3 named after Frunze, there are three other educational institutions:

It is important to note that during his visit to the Jalal-Abad region, President Sadyr Japarov instructed to build residential houses in Karakol under mortgage programs, which should help attract teachers and solve staffing issues.
