A recent inspection by the State Penitentiary Service (GPS) was initiated in response to complaints received from women held in SIZO-1, following a visit by Ombudsman Jamilya Dzhamanbaeva to the facility.

During the inspection, it was revealed that the detained women reported intimidation, rough treatment by staff, as well as a lack of medical assistance and restrictions on visits with relatives.

As a result of the inspection, the GPS stated: "The facts mentioned in the complaints were not confirmed. We operate in strict accordance with the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic and under the constant supervision of higher authorities and the prosecutor's office."

The agency also noted that the actions or inaction of employees can be challenged in higher instances, the prosecutor's office, or in court. The GPS emphasizes that the protection of the rights and legal interests of convicts and individuals in custody is a top priority for the institution.
