Orozbaev: Price reduction is not the responsibility of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service

But who will defend the interests of ordinary consumers?

Jeynal Orozbaev, head of the Antimonopoly Regulation Service, stated in an interview with KNAI "Kabar" that price reduction is not the main focus of the agency's work.

According to him, the main goal of the service is to protect the competitive environment and create conditions for its development.

Despite the small number of employees in the Antimonopoly Regulation Service, it performs many important functions, including:

- protecting consumer rights;

- ensuring fair competition;

- combating unfair business practices;

- preventing monopolization;

- interacting with monopolists;

- working with dominant players in the market.

“We cannot allow large international companies to come in and destroy small businesses in Kyrgyzstan. This can happen in a short time, even in one day. That is why we are called the antimonopoly service. In 2021, we introduced state price regulation for vegetable oil and sugar for 90 days. Without the measures taken, the population would have lost 1 billion 200 million soms, which was carefully calculated. A liter of oil then cost 180 soms, while previously its price was around 110 soms. The price of sugar reached 105 soms, and now it is 75 soms. Our service played an important role in implementing these measures,” emphasized Orozbaev.
