Eight Dispatchers for All of Bishkek. The Ambulance Service Plans to Increase Staff
At a recent session of the city council, a deputy expressed concern about the work of the ambulance service, noting that for 1.5 million residents of the city, there are only eight dispatchers handling calls, which is clearly insufficient.
Shayakhmetov added that the Minister of Health instructed the financial management to consider the possibility of allocating funds to increase the number of EMC employees.
“We have prepared the necessary calculations and hope that next year we will be able to hire eight more dispatchers. This will also require additional equipment, such as computers and telephones. The arrival of new ambulances is also expected. In 2026, Bishkek will host the SCO summit and the World Nomad Games, so the purchase of new ambulances is planned,” he noted.
The head of the EMC indicated that due to a decrease in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections, the load on the 103 service has decreased, and the center has returned to its usual mode of operation, with 432 calls registered in the last 24 hours.
During the epidemic season, there is a shortage of ambulance teams, and patients sometimes have to wait for help for several hours. It was previously reported that due to the expansion of the service area associated with the administrative reform, the existing 42 teams at the EMC are insufficient.
Considering the population and the new boundaries of the city, the actual need is about 150 teams, so currently, less than a third of the required number is operating in Bishkek.
Moreover, the situation is exacerbated by a lack of ambulances, even for the existing teams. Many vehicles are heavily worn out and regularly break down, necessitating a complete renewal of the fleet.
