In Osh, work has begun on the dismantling of the monument to Barsbek-kagan, located at the intersection of Gapar Aitieva and Bekmamata Osmonova streets. As reported by the city administration, the dismantling of the monument is scheduled for January 8, 2026. The official statement clarifies that the monument will be relocated to a new site that has already been chosen. However, another monument is planned for that location, so Barsbek-kagan will be installed in a completely different place. At the moment, the monument has been temporarily dismantled, and its new location will be determined later.

Currently, the construction of a two-level overpass bridge is actively underway in Osh, which will connect Osmonova and Kokum-Biy streets, with a length of 390 meters. It was previously reported that there were plans to relocate the Barsbek-kagan monument to the intersection of Kasymbekov and Razzakov streets.

According to local administration data, the relocation of the monument was discussed in the context of the expansion of Osmonova street and the construction of a new bridge. During the discussions, it was instructed to prepare a project for the relocation of the monument, which is located at the roundabout.

After the relocation of the monument is completed, a two-level overpass bridge will be built on B. Osmonova street, connecting Gapar Aitieva and Kokum-Biy streets. The sketch project for this structure is already ready.

The monumental complex "Barsbek Kagan" was opened in honor of the City Day of Osh on October 5, 2011. The monument was installed at the roundabout connecting G. Aitieva and B. Osmonova streets. The construction of the complex was financed from the local budget and cost 11 million soms. The project was developed by local sculptor Ravshan Mamatkulov, and the work was completed during the tenure of Mayor Melis Myrzakmatov.

The issue of relocating the monument was raised back in July 2017, when the city's mayor, Aitmamat Kadyrbaev, proposed this initiative at a city council meeting. The main reason for the relocation cited was traffic congestion. At that time, there were 99,000 registered vehicles in Osh, and the daily number of cars entering and leaving the city reached 150,000 to 170,000. The bypass road, passing through Kulatov and Aitieva streets, was considered the only one in the city.

The initiative to relocate the monument was discussed and residents were surveyed. Some believed that the relocation was unnecessary, while others suggested improving the existing complex. Drivers, in turn, proposed relocating the taxi stand, as improper parking was one of the reasons for traffic jams in that area.
