On Sunday, a tragedy occurred at the third turn of the track during a practice session for the Moto3 Malaysian Grand Prix. Noah Dettwiler, facing technical issues, was moving slowly and was struck from behind by Spanish rider José Antonio Rueda, who recently became the world champion. Both riders were thrown from their bikes, while Dettwiler remained motionless on the track, awaiting medical assistance.
The rider sustained serious internal injuries, including damage to his spleen and lungs, as well as an open leg fracture and significant blood loss. In the hospital, he experienced several cardiac arrests, but thanks to emergency surgeries, doctors were able to stabilize his condition. Noah's father, Andy Dettwiler, reported that the medical team "fought for his son's life." The CIP Green Power team confirmed that the rider's current condition remains critical but stable.
Spanish rider Rueda, for his part, only suffered a concussion and a wrist fracture, avoiding serious head or body injuries. The motorcycle community worldwide expressed support for the victims. Francesco Bagnaia criticized the decision to continue the race after the accident, while Alex Marquez, who won the Grand Prix, dedicated his victory to Dettwiler and Rueda.
This incident has been a real shock for Moto3, highlighting the dangers associated with high speeds, even during practice sessions.
