In Kyrgyzstan, support for English teachers is being strengthened: the shortage of specialists is decreasing, but remains in the regions

In Kyrgyzstan, a program to improve the teaching of English in educational institutions is actively being implemented, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education.
According to established educational standards, by the end of grades 3–6, students should achieve level A1, by grades 7–9 — A2+, and graduates of grades 10–11 — level B1. English is studied from grades 3 to 11 (12) with a workload of 2 academic hours per week, totaling 68 hours per year.

In addition, the Ministry is directing efforts towards ongoing methodological support for teachers, including regular professional development courses and consultations. Modern educational complexes, such as the Marshall Cavendish teaching materials, are being introduced.

As of December 2025, there is a shortage of 26 English language teachers in Kyrgyzstan. The greatest need for specialists is noted in the Chuy region, where there is a shortage of 10 teachers. In other regions, the deficit varies from 1 to 4 teachers. In the capital Bishkek, there is a shortage of 4 specialists, while in Osh, the staffing situation is fully staffed.

Learning from Neighbors: Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan as Examples
Kyrgyzstan is exploring successful practices in English language teaching in neighboring countries.
Uzbekistan:
In Uzbekistan, a large-scale initiative called English Speaking Nation is being implemented, within which thousands of teachers are trained by foreign specialists. Conversational clubs and online platforms for students and teachers are being introduced into school practice, significantly enhancing the qualifications of a large number of teachers and increasing the staffing potential.
Kazakhstan:
Kazakhstan is actively developing trilingual education, where the English language occupies a central place. Teachers participate in state grant programs and undergo certification according to international standards. In addition, high school students study subjects such as mathematics, biology, and computer science in English, creating demand for teachers and increasing the competitiveness of graduates.
The Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic notes that the positive experiences of neighboring countries highlight the effectiveness of long-term programs to support teachers. Kyrgyzstan plans to expand similar initiatives aimed at providing educational institutions with qualified personnel and improving the level of English proficiency among students.
