According to Bloomberg, the European Union intends to impose new sanctions against Kyrgyzstan in response to the support provided to Russia.

As part of the discussed package of measures aimed at Russia, a mechanism aimed at preventing circumvention of sanctions is planned to be applied for the first time, which will affect the export of certain equipment to Kyrgyzstan.

Among the goods subject to the ban are machine tools and certain types of radio equipment, the agency reports.

This package of sanctions against the Russian Federation is expected to be adopted on February 24, 2026, coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the start of military actions in Ukraine, as stated by Kaja Kallas, the head of EU diplomacy.

In connection with suspicions of circumventing sanctions against Russia, companies from various countries, including Kyrgyzstan, have also come under pressure from new restrictions imposed by the EU and the US. For example, in October 2025, two banks from Kyrgyzstan—"Tolubay" and the Eurasian Savings Bank—were added to the EU sanctions lists. Additionally, in February 2025, "Keremet Bank," which had previously been sanctioned by the US, also appeared on the UK list. Currently, several other companies from Kyrgyzstan are also under sanctions.
