Starting April 1, the government of the Russian Federation is introducing a temporary embargo on gasoline exports. This decision will affect all market participants, except for supplies under intergovernmental agreements, as reported by "Kommersant".

The main goal of the new ban is to ensure saturation of the domestic market and to curb the rise in wholesale prices, which have increased by more than 12 percent over the past month.

Reasons for the introduction of the embargo:

According to data from the Price Index Center, at the beginning of the year, the volume of gasoline exports from Russia to Central Asian countries increased by 46 percent compared to December, and on an annual basis, by 100 percent. However, in February, there was a 26 percent decrease in supplies to the domestic market of Russia (down to 2.5 million tons), which forced the authorities to take stricter regulatory measures.

Although the embargo is coming into effect, analysts at NEFT Research do not forecast a significant decrease in prices. The global situation, where the cost of a ton of gasoline in Rotterdam exceeds $1,000, will continue to exert pressure on the closed market. Nevertheless, Russian exchange quotes have already reacted: on March 27, the price of Ai-95 decreased by 0.72 percent, and summer diesel fuel by 0.84 percent.

Kyrgyzstan traditionally meets its needs for petroleum products mainly through imports from Russia. A similar restriction was already imposed in September 2025 due to shortages in regions of Russia. The new decision has been made ahead of the spring fieldwork and holiday season to prevent a repeat of the crisis observed last year. The stability of supplies from Russia plays a key role in curbing inflation, which in 2025 faced pressure from logistical disruptions.
