Not long ago, many dead seals were found on the shores of the Caspian Sea, mainly in Kazakhstan and Dagestan. The latest incident was recorded in the Tupkaragan district of the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, where at least 112 seal carcasses were discovered.
According to data, the population of Caspian seals has decreased by 90% over the past century. In 2008, the International Union for Conservation of Nature assigned this species a status indicating a threat of extinction.
