Latif Gandiyev, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Azerbaijan to Kyrgyzstan, shared in an exclusive interview with vb.kg about significant events of 2025, which, according to him, became one of the most successful years in the history of Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz relations, as well as plans for 2026.

What key events occurred in the relations between the two countries in the outgoing year?

- The year 2025 was rich in events and achievements. The dialogue between our states was maintained at all levels, including high-level meetings. For example, on July 3-4, the President of Kyrgyzstan participated in the 17th summit of the Organization for Economic Cooperation in Khankendi, Azerbaijan. On the same day, the presidents opened the "Aykol Manas" school in the village of Khydyrly, which became one of the most significant moments of the year.

Also, on October 7, the 12th summit of the heads of state of the Turkic States Organization took place in Gabala, attended by the President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov. During the summit, the presidents of the two countries held a number of bilateral meetings to discuss current issues and opportunities for deepening cooperation, including in the economy and the initial projects of the Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz Development Fund. Each such meeting typically leads to new successes in our relations.

This year, the first project of the joint fund was successfully implemented. What new investment initiatives are expected in 2026?

- The Fund continues its active work. It is the only organization in Kyrgyzstan that makes real investments rather than issuing loans. For example, a sewing factory with 350 jobs was opened on the Day of Independence of Kyrgyzstan, marking an important step in the fund's activities. Partnership with Azerbaijan provides new opportunities, and the fund carefully selects projects for financing. Plans include the construction of a carpet manufacturing factory and the completion of a small hydropower plant in the Issyk-Kul region, which will be launched next year. Additionally, the construction of a modern five-star hotel on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul is ongoing, with its opening scheduled for the first half of next year. This project will contribute to the development of tourism and related sectors.

What are the results of the interaction between the two countries within the framework of the Turkic States Organization?

- Both countries have been members of this organization since its founding in 2009. This year, Bishkek hosted the first meeting of the heads of government of the Turkic States Organization, where the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, represented the country. This meeting, initiated by Kyrgyzstan, discussed new ways to expand trade and economic ties between the states.

What can be said about the results of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Humanitarian Cooperation?

- In December, the 6th meeting of the commission took place in Baku, where constructive negotiations were held. The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Torobayev, noted the importance of expanding investment cooperation. During the meeting, prospects for cooperation in energy, transport, education, and agriculture were discussed. Additionally, the Kyrgyz delegation became acquainted with the work of "Azercosmos," which prevented a potential natural disaster in the Issyk-Kul region, as well as with the Baku Shipyard and other industrial enterprises.

These events indicated the directions of economic cooperation for the coming year and gave new momentum to the interaction between Baku and Bishkek.

It is also worth noting the importance of Azerbaijan's acceptance into the Central Asian community, for which we are grateful to Kyrgyzstan. Azerbaijan has become a "gateway" to Central Asia, and we consider ourselves part of this region not only economically but also in terms of transport. We represent the interests of Central Asia through international transport corridors that provide access to external markets, which is an important advantage for all countries in the region.

Furthermore, this year, the Days of Azerbaijani Culture were held in Kyrgyzstan, showcasing the closeness of our peoples in linguistic, cultural, and historical aspects.

The year 2025 became significant for deepening bilateral and multilateral relations, allowing us to look to the future with optimism. Next year, high-level mutual visits are planned, and preliminary agreements are already in place. I am confident that our relations will continue to develop and deepen.

In conclusion, I wish everyone peace and prosperity in the new year. I am sure that the achievements of the Kyrgyz people will continue to grow and develop in 2026.
