In 2025, the U.S. State Department announced the cancellation of more than 100,000 visas for foreign nationals, about 8,000 of which were student categories.

The department's press service emphasized that such measures are aimed at enhancing security in the country and will continue in the future.

According to information from Newsweek, the number of canceled visas in 2025 was more than twice as high as in 2024, when Joe Biden was president. The State Department reported that these actions are part of a comprehensive approach to controlling the entry of foreigners and protecting national security.

The cancellation of visas and subsequent deportations are related to the immigration policy of former President Donald Trump. As part of this policy, a travel ban was imposed on citizens from 12 countries, and additional restrictions were established for seven countries, including Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran, and Yemen.

Furthermore, the Trump administration significantly reduced the quota for accepting refugees, lowering it from 125,000 to 7,500 people in 2026, which is the lowest figure in the history of the program.

It should be noted that the current president's administration plans to convert industrial warehouses in several states into detention centers for illegal migrants to expedite their deportation.
