Gulnara Amankulova, head of the rehabilitation center for people with disabilities "Ayar," shared her views on the growing problem of autism at a meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council dedicated to economy, budget, finance, and investments, which took place on February 10.

She noted: "The problem of autism is not only a Kyrgyzstani issue but also a global one, which can be called an epidemic."

According to forecasts, by 2027-2030, every second newborn will show signs of autism, and the situation may significantly worsen by 2035.

The "Ayar" center has started accepting children with autism and is learning specific methods to work with them. Although the specialists at the institution are trained in therapy, they cannot officially hire a professional in autism due to the lack of the corresponding specialty in the state registry.

In 2025, the center collaborated again with Rossotrudnichestvo, inviting experts to conduct training seminars. The classes were held at the "Ayar" base and the Osh center for staff.

"Our distinguishing feature is the constant improvement of qualifications, as therapy methods evolve, and the symptoms of the disease can manifest in various ways," Amankulova explained.

She also added that the University of Cambridge is currently conducting research aimed at studying the causes of the global autism epidemic.
