In 2025, the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund (MHIF) paid pharmacies a total of 409.7 million soms for medications dispensed through preferential prescriptions.

According to MHIF data, these payments ensured access to necessary medications for thousands of citizens of Kyrgyzstan, who were only able to pay a portion of the cost of the drugs.

Preferential medications are prescribed by family doctors based on medical indications. Prescriptions are issued through electronic prescriptions, based on a directory that includes more than 800 drug names.

It is important to note that the program is available exclusively to citizens who have insurance and are registered with specific doctors. Medications can only be obtained at pharmacies that partner with the MHIF.

The cost of medications is partially covered: the patient pays a certain amount, and the MHIF provides a discount, compensating up to 50% of the cost of the drug.

The MHIF emphasized that this system makes treatment more accessible and convenient, as well as reduces the financial burden on families, allowing patients to adhere to prescribed therapy without interruptions.

The Fund also recommends that citizens regularly check their insurance status and consult with family doctors for advice and the prescription of preferential medications.
