Spain extradited to Kazakhstan a former customs officer who fled three years ago

The General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported that Spain has extradited a former customs service employee who had been on the run for three years.

The suspect is involved in a case of abuse of official powers and document forgery. According to the press release, his arrest took place at the request of Interpol after he was placed on the international wanted list.

According to the charges, in 2020, while working in the customs authorities, he entered false information into the information system, allowing the owners of eight vehicles to evade customs duties totaling more than 45 million tenge.

After a long period of evading justice, the extradited individual was placed in a detention center in Astana.

For the crimes he is accused of, he faces a penalty of imprisonment for up to seven years, along with confiscation of property and a lifetime ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities.
