Fraudster in GKNB disguise deceived and took $17,000

In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, employees of the Main Internal Affairs Department detained a man who, posing as a worker of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), fraudulently obtained $17,000 from a local resident. This information was disseminated by the police press service.

The victim, a citizen named U.J., contacted law enforcement and reported that a certain fraudster had reached out to him via the WhatsApp messenger. The scammer claimed he could help free a person from a detention center, for which he demanded a large sum of money.



In connection with the incident, the investigative department of the Lenin District Internal Affairs Directorate initiated a criminal case under the article "Fraud" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. During operational activities, A.T., born in 1988, was detained, who had previously had legal issues and had been on the international wanted list since 2022. The detainee has been placed in a temporary detention facility. Work is underway to establish his involvement in other similar crimes.

The Main Internal Affairs Department of Bishkek urges citizens to remain vigilant and not to trust individuals posing as officials of state bodies who demand money through phone calls or messengers.
