At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 25, Deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova raised an important issue regarding the provision of food for individuals held in pre-trial detention centers. She is concerned that detainees are not receiving adequate nutrition.

Mavlyanova addressed the First Deputy Chairman of the State Penitentiary Service, Nurlan Sarchayev, with a question about the funding for food for detainees.

Sarchayev reported that an amount ranging from 120 to 160 soms is allocated for these purposes.

The deputy emphasized that many of those in pre-trial detention have not yet been found guilty, and cited examples where food is absent, as well as instances where food parcels from relatives are not allowed.

In response, Sarchayev assured that food is regularly provided and is under control. However, Mavlyanova called for a verification of this information, as she has received complaints, and suggested addressing the issue at hand.
