In 2026, President Sadyr Japarov pardoned him, and on February 17, Azhiev was released.
The president commented on his release, noting that Azhiev flew out of prison by helicopter, but 15 minutes later the helicopter was returned, and he was landed back at the departure point. After that, Azhiev left the location by car.
