In Bishkek, an active public discussion has erupted regarding the recent statement made by Talantbek Imanakun uulu, the Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services. During an interview, he suggested that those dissatisfied with the current situation in the city, including renovation and environmental issues, consider moving to a village or to a jailoo.

His words: “If you want to breathe fresh air, feel free, no one is holding you back — move to a village or to a jailoo” have sparked widespread public resonance and discontent among city residents.

To find out how Bishkek residents react to such statements, 24.kg conducted a survey among local inhabitants.

Many survey participants noted that such words from the deputy minister were deeply offensive to them.

“It was rude and hurtful,” shared one of the respondents.

Another participant added: “The phrase sounds harsh. Bishkek continues to develop, and rural areas also need support.”

“It’s unpleasant to hear. Many people come here for work,” noted one of the interviewees.

Some respondents pointed out the numerous unresolved issues in the capital. “They should better deal with the smog issues,” expressed one of the surveyed individuals.

At the same time, some participants believe that life in rural areas can be a good alternative to urban living. “The air is cleaner in the jailoo. You can live both there and here,” summarized one of the respondents.
