Driver education will also undergo changes
The Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic has developed a project concerning the "Approval of state educational standards for initial vocational education in the field of training drivers of categories 'B' and 'C'", as reported by official sources of the ministry.
The goal of the new state standard is to improve the quality of driver training, which in turn should lead to a reduction in the number of road traffic accidents and an increase in the professional skills of graduates, as well as ensuring safety on the roads.
According to the new standard, training for category 'B' drivers will take place in the following forms:
- full-time;
- evening;
- distance (online).
Upon admission, applicants must provide one of the following documents:
- certificate of secondary general education;
- certificate of basic general education.
The normative duration of mastering the educational program for full-time study is:
- with basic general and secondary general education — 10 months;
- for vocational training and retraining programs — up to 1 year.
The total workload of the educational program for the academic year (10 months of standard training) must be at least 480 hours, including laboratory and practical classes and 70 hours of practical driving.
For teachers and production training masters, there is a requirement to undergo internships in relevant organizations at least once every three years. Traffic rules instructors must have relevant education and at least three years of work experience, while driving instructors are required to have at least five years of experience.
Instructors teaching first aid must have medical education.
As for the normative duration of mastering the educational program for the profession "Driver of a vehicle of category 'C'", it is:
- with basic general and secondary general education — 12 months;
- for vocational training and retraining programs — up to 1 year.
During the academic year (12 months of standard training), students must complete at least 576 hours, including laboratory and practical classes and 100 hours of practical driving.
Previously, authorities reported that due to the increase in the number of traffic accidents on the roads of the republic, driver training standards would be revised. It is planned to abolish indefinite licenses, and the duration of training will be 10 months. This has led to a sharp increase in the number of people wishing to learn to drive under the old standards in driving schools.
