In Bishkek, at school No. 37, a case of tuberculosis has been registered involving a mathematics teacher. A representative of the National Center for Phthisiatry, PhD Nestan Moydunova, reported this on the air of "Birinchi Radio," noting that an investigation will begin.

During this investigation, specialists intend to determine the source of the infection and conduct examinations of all those who came into contact with the infected individual, including students and teachers.

“This case raises concerns among the population; however, I do not believe it is necessary to discuss this situation too loudly, as it is an isolated case. Medical workers are already addressing this issue, and we will present the results soon,” Moydunova added.

She also mentioned that certain categories of citizens, such as teachers, kindergarten staff, as well as workers in sports and food sectors, are required to undergo annual medical examinations.

“The infected teacher underwent a medical examination. It is possible that the X-ray was taken at an early stage of the disease when there were no visible changes yet. However, it is also important to pay attention to the quality of the fluorography. Tuberculosis differs from pneumonia and influenza in that its symptoms may not manifest immediately. The incubation period is about two months, which complicates timely diagnosis,” the medical professional explained.

She emphasized that tuberculosis is a disease that is often stigmatized.
“I understand what this educator is going through right now, as everyone now knows about her illness. I want to urge teachers, students, and relatives to provide her with support and understanding — this is a manifestation of literacy and awareness. People with this disease should not be stigmatized. Life goes on, and the teacher will be able to undergo treatment and recover; all conditions have been created for this,” Nestan Moydunova assured.

We remind you that the children who came into contact with the infected teacher — four seventh-grade classes and two eighth-grade classes — have been assigned R-Mantoux tests and X-rays. They will be monitored by a phthisiatrist for two years.
