In Kyrgyzstan, after the separate service charge in cafes and restaurants was abolished, social media users and experts began to notice an increase in dish prices. The Restaurant Business Association provided clarifications, pointing to two main reasons behind this price increase, which are related to recent legislative changes and economic conditions.
Topics for discussion
Restaurants and cafes can no longer charge customers a service fee
According to industry specialists, the first reason is that the abolished service charge was not a tip or an additional fee, but actually covered a significant portion of the establishments' operating costs. As a result of the ban on separate charging for this fee, restaurants and cafes were forced to include these expenses in the price of dishes, which, in turn, contributed to the price increase.

The second reason is related to the rising cost of operating catering enterprises. The association notes that there has been an increase in the prices of food products, rental costs, logistics, utilities, as well as wage increases for employees, which, in turn, also affects the final cost of dishes for consumers.
