In Kyrgyzstan, the campaign to replace driver's licenses has concluded - results and outcomes
The strategic campaign to update driver's licenses has come to an end. The previous documents had an insufficient level of security, which contributed to the risks of forgery. The new licenses, produced by the company "Uchkun," are equipped with modern security features, which practically eliminates the possibility of counterfeiting. This enhances the security of the documents and helps strengthen Kyrgyzstan's international image.

Digitization: archives updated since the 1970s

One of the significant achievements was the systematic update of the driver's archives. The state institution for vehicle and driver registration of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that licenses issued in the 1970s-1990s, which were previously not digitized, have now been included in the "Tunduk" application. This has allowed for the complete digitization of citizens' data.

Simplified process without a medical certificate

During the campaign, citizens were not required to present a medical certificate of form 083, which significantly simplified the process. According to the president's directive, this benefit will remain in effect until December 31, 2026. This means that holders of old indefinite licenses will be able to exchange them even after the campaign ends without the need for a medical examination, but outside the free program.

New approaches in driving schools

Alongside the replacement of licenses, a reform in the driver training system was conducted. New educational programs have been implemented in state driving schools, and free training has begun for 11th-grade students. According to the new rules, temporary licenses for novice drivers will be revoked for serious traffic violations, which will require retraining. These measures are aimed at improving driving culture and reducing the number of traffic accidents.

Thus, the program for the free replacement of driver's licenses has concluded and achieved its main goals. Thousands of citizens were able to replace outdated documents with new and secure ones. The archives have been organized, the data digitized, and the possibilities for forging licenses significantly reduced.

Despite the completion of the free phase, reforms in driver registration and the enhancement of road culture will continue. The state has created the necessary conditions, and now the primary responsibility for adhering to the rules and ensuring safety on the roads lies with the drivers.
