Kyrgyz Monuments in Bronze and Granite
Monuments to the heroes of the revolution.
One of the successful plastic embodiments of the heroic image of a fighter for the establishment of Soviet power is the bust of the hero of the Civil War, a worker-revolutionary, chairman of the district-city committee of the RCP(b) in Kyrgyzstan, who led the fight against the Belyovodsk uprising in 1918, A. Ivanitsin, sculpted by N. I. Lodyagin. The bronze bust, resting on a round granite pedestal, is installed on Dzerzhinsky Avenue. Created in the best traditions of Russian realistic sculpture, it carries the high ideal of international brotherhood, revolutionary fortitude, and moral purity of the first generation of fighters for the establishment of Soviet power. At the same time, it is the image of a specific person, intelligent, insightful, authoritative, emphasized by the strict and expressive modeling of the face with a heavy, intense gaze and a determined curve of the lips.
In the recreated harsh appearance of the hero, the complexity of character emerges, the intensity of feelings of a passionate, goal-oriented nature. The monument organically fits into the surrounding space and significantly reminds of the events of the revolutionary time that took place in Kyrgyzstan.
On the theme of revolutionary heroism, this work is complemented by the bust monument to T. Zhukeev-Pudovkin (1968) in the city of Naryn, created by the first national artist G. Aitiev (architect A. Isaev). In working on the image of the first Bolshevik-Kyrgyz, who was accepted into the ranks of the RSDRP(b) in 1905, known for his underground revolutionary activities in Moscow, Leningrad, Tashkent, Krasnodar, Warsaw, and in the industrial centers of the Volga and Ural regions, a fearless Chekist, G. Aitiev was guided by documentary material currently housed in the Memorial Museum of T. Zhukeev-Pudovkin in Naryn. By depicting only the head of the hero in the monument, Aitiev preserved the likeness to the photograph of Zhukeev-Pudovkin, focusing attention on his willful face, thoughtful eyes under the brim of a pulled-down cap, expressing composure, vigilance, and courage. Due to the detailed interpretation of form and the striving for psychological disclosure of the image, the monument is close to easel portrait sculpture.
An important socio-political event was the unveiling of the monument to the native of Kyrgyzstan, hero of the revolution and Civil War, commander M. V. Frunze in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, which bears his name. The monument was created according to the design of Moscow sculptor A. M. Posyado and the people's artist of the Moldavian SSR L. I. Dubinovsky (architects A. Isaev, E. Vulykh, V. Khivin). Embodied in bronze and granite, the monument fits into the square near the train station of the capital. It represents a solemn equestrian statue of M. V. Frunze, dressed in the uniform of the Civil War, as if greeting his compatriots from the revolutionary distance. The monument is executed in the traditions of academicism, with a ceremonial elevation of the image of the commander, characteristic of the art of the 1950s.
