Osh Pump Plant (now a machine engineering plant)

Osh City Pump Plant

Among the enterprises of the metalworking industry, the leading one is the pump plant. This enterprise was established in 1939 as the cooperative "Metallist." In 1946-1947, the cooperative was transformed into a foundry-mechanical enterprise, which in 1959, according to the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR (October 26, 1959), was merged with the motor repair plant into an electromechanical plant for the production of water pumps. The first director of the electromechanical plant was N. G. Kozlov, who previously headed the repair plant. The team of the transformed plant immediately began to master new products—pumps. Significant practical assistance was provided to the plant by workers from the Kishinev Pump Plant named after Kotovsky and scientists from Moscow: chief technologist A. Pokrovsky, workshop manager P. Yakushev, and foremen P. Kosenko, A. Vetrenko, who trained personnel in new professions. In 1960, the first experimental batch of 7 pumps was produced, along with electric motors, and in 1961, 3424 pumps were produced. The new product went into mass production. The pioneer of machine engineering in southern Kyrgyzstan was gaining strength.

In early 1963, the Council of Ministers of the Kyrgyz SSR decided to reconstruct the electromechanical plant, and construction began on the mechanical workshop buildings with domestic premises and an engineering building, and in 1964, the assembly shop. This construction was completed in 1968. As a result, labor productivity increased by 3.6 times. The second phase of reconstruction was completed in 1981.

The buildings of the second mechanical and press-preparatory workshops, and the administrative and domestic building with a cafeteria for 240 seats were put into operation. The quantity of production increased year by year. Rationalization proposals from engineers Sh. Mamin, Z. Kurantina, Yu. Mashin, O. Turov were successfully implemented in production. Thus, a new line of pumps reached the level of the best world samples, and in some parameters even surpassed them.

By 1965, more than 11,000 pumps had been produced. In 1967, the first pumps from the Osh plant crossed the borders of more than 20 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In 1972, the plant was awarded the Quality Mark. The team is proud of the "quality champions"; lathe operator V. Polyansky, mechanic A. Melnikov, foundry worker M. Mirzakhonov, and others.

Necessary conditions for cultural recreation have been created for workers and engineering and technical staff. There is a recreation area in the upper reaches of Ak-Bura, a kindergarten for 140 children, and a pioneer camp in Arslanbob. At the plant, representatives of 18 nationalities work together as one family: Russians, Uzbeks, Kyrgyz, Tatars, Ukrainians, Germans, Koreans, Azerbaijanis, Belarusians, and others.

The plant's leaders have been awarded high government honors: 1 person was awarded the Order of the October Revolution, 9 the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, 9 the Order of the Badge of Honor, and 96 people received various medals. A. Timoshenko was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Industry of Kyrgyzstan. Currently, 720 people work at the plant.

The directors of this plant have included: K. Kozlov, N. Babiy, S. Ismailov, K. Janibekov, A. Starikov, A. Zhidyaevsky, K. Nurgaziev (since 1991). They led the plant in different years and consistently solved the tasks set before the plant. Now the plant operates in a market environment.
