Today, Kyrgyzstan celebrates an important event — Energy Workers' Day, which brings together thousands of professionals under one roof, including engineers, dispatchers, and repair crew workers who ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the country's energy system.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the energy sector continues to be strategically important for the republic's economy. This year, the focus has been on modernizing hydroelectric power stations, developing network infrastructure, and implementing innovative digital technologies in energy system management. An important aspect has also been preparing for the autumn-winter season and reducing electricity losses.

At the ceremonial event in Bishkek, the Minister of Energy Talaybek Ibraev emphasized the significance of the work of energy workers for the stable development of the country. “Mistakes in our field are unacceptable, and the daily responsibility is what we face. Light in homes, the operation of factories, the opening of schools and hospitals — all this is possible thanks to the efforts of energy workers,” he noted.

At the same time, the minister candidly outlined the existing challenges. These include outdated equipment, a lack of generation capacity during peak moments, and the need to attract investments for modernization.

“We should not hide the difficulties. The high wear and tear of networks and stations is the result of many years of insufficient funding. Our goal is to systematically address these issues without shifting the entire burden onto the shoulders of citizens. We are grateful to the population for their understanding and support,” he added.

According to Ibraev, in the coming years, the main focus will be on building new generation facilities, including small hydroelectric power stations, and developing renewable energy sources.

“The energy sector is an industry with long-term prospects. The decisions we make today will determine the future of Kyrgyzstan for the next 10, 20, and 30 years. It is important not only to solve current tasks but also to have a vision for a common future,” he emphasized.

“Our task is to develop the energy sector so that it is economically efficient, technologically modern, environmentally sustainable, and socially just. This is a complex balance, and this is where the professionalism of energy workers lies,” the minister concluded.

It is worth noting that Energy Workers' Day is celebrated on December 22 in many countries that were part of the former USSR. It was on this day in 1920 that the famous GOERLO plan was adopted, and the holiday itself was established by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in 1966.
