As reported by Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, a project aimed at reducing water losses is planned in Kyrgyzstan. Within the framework of this project, negotiations have taken place with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) regarding the financing of the concrete lining of the Western Branch of the Second Big Chui Canal.

Currently, an agreement is being prepared, which will serve as the basis for the implementation of this project. The estimated cost of the work is expected to be 37 million euros.

According to the minister, irrigation water losses in the BChK reach 50–55%. It is expected that the concrete lining of the canal beds will significantly reduce these losses and ensure a stable water supply to irrigated agricultural lands.

Additionally, the concrete lining will help prevent water filtration into the ground and its movement through underground layers, creating conditions for the drainage of marshy areas in the lower part of the canal.

According to Torobaev, this will open new opportunities for agricultural development, horticulture, and the establishment of new settlements near existing ones.
