As part of the project for the modernization of Osh's wastewater treatment facilities, 8.3 million euros will be allocated.
Today, during the third reading, the Jogorku Kenesh adopted a bill concerning the ratification of agreements on loans and grants between Kyrgyzstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. These funds will be directed towards the expansion of the sewage treatment facilities (STF) in the city of Osh.
The total funding amount will be 8.3 million euros, of which 4 million euros will be provided by the EBRD in the form of a loan, 3 million euros will be a grant from the European Union, and 1.3 million euros will be a grant from the Green Climate Fund of the EBRD.
The loan conditions include a 15-year repayment period with a 4-year grace period and an interest rate of 1% per annum plus Euribor (for 6 months). The project implementation is planned for 3 years.
With these funds, a complete modernization of the first complex of wastewater treatment facilities, which was built in 1965 and has not been used since 1978, will be carried out. The project includes major repairs of buildings and the installation of modern equipment, including screens, sand traps, sedimentation tanks, aeration tanks, pumping-blower stations, and contact tanks.
It is expected that the implementation of this project will significantly increase the capacity for wastewater treatment, allow for the connection of new residential and social facilities, and improve sanitary conditions in Osh. The bill was successfully approved by the parliament in the third reading.
