BChK is being concreted: the project for 37 million euros will reduce water losses by half

Negotiations between the Cabinet of Ministers and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development have successfully concluded. The press service of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry announced the launch of a project to concrete the riverbed of the western branch of the Large Chui Canal.

Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev noted that preparations for an agreement between the parties are currently underway.

Goals of Concreting



Currently, losses of irrigation water due to the earthen riverbed amount to 50–55 percent, as water seeps into the soil before reaching the farmers.

Concreting the canal is expected to lead to the following results:

The modernization of the BChK is seen as an important step in the fight against drought and water resource shortages in the Chui region, according to the Ministry.
