Mongolian meat will enter the Kyrgyz market with reduced tariffs

In Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia, preparations are actively underway for the introduction of a preferential trade regime, which, according to experts, could significantly impact food prices. At a meeting of the relevant committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on February 16, deputies approved in the first reading an agreement signed in the summer of 2022.

Choro Seiitov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce, noted that the agreement provides for a reduction in customs duties on 367 types of goods. Parliament members were particularly interested in the clause regarding food imports. He confirmed that meat products from Mongolia will be included in the list of goods with reduced tariffs. According to him, this should contribute to lower prices and improve the competitive environment in the Kyrgyz market.

In addition to meat, the preferential regime also covers vegetables, fruits, beans, and various types of industrial equipment. The agreement will be in effect for three years with the possibility of automatic extension for a similar period if both parties adhere to the established conditions.
