Food Security and Income: What Farmers in Kyrgyzstan Are Advised to Grow

According to Turatbek Idrisov, head of the Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, farmers in Kyrgyzstan are strongly advised to focus on cultivating important crops such as barley, wheat, potatoes, onions, and sugar beets.

Idrisov noted that grain crops and sugar beets play a leading role in the country's food security strategy. At the same time, the most profitable crops today are raspberries, strawberries, and corn.

In Kyrgyzstan, it is planned to sow more than 1.2 million hectares with agricultural crops.

Farmers who focus on these crops should apply drip and sprinkler irrigation. The state supports the implementation of efficient irrigation methods by providing subsidies and low-interest loans.

Monitoring of the situation shows that with the increase in livestock numbers in the republic, the demand for sowing fodder crops such as barley and corn is growing.
